Terms of use

Last updated: 4 October 2026

The rules for using Chronika, in plain language. Short version: what you record is yours, you are responsible for what is on your screen, and sharing is your choice.

Who these terms are between

Chronika, at chronika.io, is run by Its Hive, Inc., a company based in Houston, Texas (“we”, “us”). These terms are between us and the person or organization using the service (“you”). If you use Chronika for an organization, you confirm you may accept these terms for it. By creating an account or using Chronika you agree to them.

“Chronika” means the web app, the Chrome and Edge extension and the Windows recorder, together.

Accounts and workspaces

You need an account to record and to manage guides. You can sign in with email and a password, or with Microsoft Entra ID, Google or another OIDC provider when we have turned that on. With a password, you confirm your email address with a code we send you before you can sign in. Give us accurate details, keep your sign-in details private, and tell us if you think someone else has them. You are responsible for what happens under your account. You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to open one, and you may not use Chronika if the law bars you from it.

Every account has a personal workspace. A team workspace is shared by its members. Each member has a role (owner, admin, editor or viewer) and can do what that role allows. Owners and admins decide who is in a team workspace, so they are responsible for who can see what it holds.

The recorders connect with a personal token that you approve on the connect page. A token acts with your permissions. Treat it like a password and revoke it if you lose a device.

Your recordings and guides

What you record is yours. A recording captures whatever was on the screen when you clicked, so it can include names, numbers, messages and other people’s data. You are responsible for what you choose to record and for having the right to record it, including your employer’s permission and the consent of anyone whose information appears.

You give us the right to store and process your recordings and guides for one purpose: to run Chronika for you and the people you share with. That includes making screenshots available to the members of your workspace and, if you turn a public link on, to anyone who has the link.

Chronika blurs password fields in screenshots and does not keep what is typed into them. That is a safeguard, not a promise that nothing sensitive can appear. Check a guide before you share it, and blur anything else that should not be seen.

Sharing and public links

Guides are private to their workspace until someone shares them. A public link gives anyone who has it read-only access to that guide and the screenshots it uses, without an account. Anyone with a link can pass it on. Turn the link off to stop access through it.

Exports (PDF, Word, HTML and Markdown) are copies. Once a file leaves Chronika, we cannot recall it.

AI write-up

AI is optional. When the AI write-up is switched on, the text of a finished recording (page addresses and titles, the names of what was clicked, text typed outside password fields, and your narration) is sent to our AI provider to write a title, an introduction and step text. Narration audio may be sent for transcription. Screenshots are not part of the write-up request. When it is off, nothing is sent and default text is written instead.

AI text is a first draft and can be wrong. You are responsible for reading and correcting a guide before you rely on it or share it.

What we ask of you

Please do not:

  • record people or systems without the right to do so;
  • use Chronika to collect other people’s passwords or secrets;
  • upload anything unlawful, or anything that infringes someone else’s rights;
  • try to break, overload or get around the service, or look at accounts or workspaces that are not yours;
  • resell or rebrand the service unless we have agreed in writing.

We may suspend an account that does, and we will say why when we can.

Plans and payment

Chronika has a free plan and paid plans. What each includes and what it costs is on the pricing page. Prices are shown before you pay, and taxes are added where they apply.

Paid plans are paid in advance, by the month or by the year as you choose, through Stripe, which handles your card details (we never see them). A subscription renews each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your billing settings; the plan then runs to the end of the period you paid for and does not renew. Fees already paid are not refunded, except where the law says otherwise or where we tell you otherwise in writing.

We may change a price or a plan’s limits. We will tell you before it applies to you, and you can cancel before it does.

Deleting and ending

A deleted guide goes to Trash first, where it can be restored, and is removed for good when it is deleted from Trash by an admin or its author. You can stop using Chronika at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and its data through the contact page; the privacy policy says how long things are kept.

We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms, and we may change or end the service, giving notice where we reasonably can. If we end a paid plan for any reason other than your breach, or end the service, we will refund the part of the period you paid for and did not get. Export what you need first: guides can be saved as PDF, Word, HTML and Markdown. The parts of these terms that are meant to outlast them (liability, governing law, and what you owe us) do.

Our software and your feedback

Chronika’s software, design, name and logo belong to us or our licensors. You get a personal, non-transferable right to use the web app, the browser extension and the Windows recorder for as long as you have an account. You may not copy, reverse engineer or resell them, except where the law gives you that right.

If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything. They do not include your recordings or guides, which stay yours.

Availability and liability

We work to keep Chronika running and correct, but we provide it “as is”, without a promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profit or lost data, and our total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or, on the free plan, to US$100). Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

You are responsible for backing up what matters to you, and for what you record, share and publish with Chronika. If you use Chronika for a business or an organization, you agree to cover our reasonable losses if a third party’s claim against us arises from your recording or sharing something you had no right to.

Governing law and changes

Your local rights stay. If you use Chronika as a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away the rights the mandatory law of the country or state where you live gives you, and you may bring a claim in your local courts. The same goes for the data protection rights described in the privacy policy, which apply according to where you are.

Otherwise, Texas. Subject to that, these terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you use Chronika for a business or an organization, the state and federal courts in Harris County, Texas have jurisdiction over a dispute that cannot be settled by talking first, and we ask you to write to us before starting one.

If part of these terms cannot be enforced where you live, the rest still applies.

We may update these terms. We will change the “last updated” date, and for a material change we will email account holders in advance. Using Chronika after a change means you accept it; if you do not, stop using it and close your account. How we handle personal data is described in the privacy policy, and cookies in the cookie notice.
