In short

Chronika is a way to write software rollout guides click by click. Record the new tool in a test environment, publish the steps before launch, and people follow along with Guide Me on the live page. When the vendor changes a screen, you edit that step instead of starting over.

01How it works

Record it. Share it. Fix it. Keep it.

The launch email goes out on Monday morning. Before it does, record the sign-in, the first request and the approval in the test environment, so the first thing people find is a link and not a queue.

  1. Capture it as you work

Record the jobs people do most, before launch

Do not document the whole tool. Work out the five jobs most people will do on day one, and record each in a test environment before go-live. Every click becomes a step.

    • The browser extension records web apps; the Windows app records desktop software
    • Record in a test environment so no real data ends up in the pictures
    • Narrate where the new way differs from the old
  2. Share it where work happens

Put the guides inside the launch

Link the guides in the announcement, the intranet page and the chat channel. Readers open the guide in another window and follow it while they work. They do not need a Chronika account when you turn on the public link.

    • Public read-only links, one per guide
    • Guide Me on the live site points at the next click, through the extension
    • PDF or Word for a printed quick-start
  3. Fix the painful parts

Bridge the old way and the new way

People do not need the whole tool. They need the clicks that replace the old routine. Add a tip where something moved, an alert where the new tool behaves differently, and circle the button people will look for in the wrong place.

    • Tips, notes and alerts on any step
    • Annotate and zoom on a crowded screen
    • Crop to the part of the window the reader needs
  4. Keep the library in order

Keep the guides alive after go-live

Software updates change screens. When they do, edit the steps that moved or record more steps into the guide. Keep one collection per tool, and let the people who own the tool be editors.

    • Write it up can propose new text for a changed guide; you review, apply and can undo
    • Admins manage who edits; viewers read
    • Retired guides go to Trash first

02Example guides

Guides you would record

These are the kinds of guides a rollout team could record. They are examples, not customer work.

  1. 01How to sign in for the first time
  2. 02How to submit a request in the new portal
  3. 03How to find a file that used to live on the old share
  4. 04How to set up notifications
  5. 05How to approve a request
  6. 06How to get help

Tip

Over €1,500 needs your manager’s approval first.

03What you get

What Chronika does for a rollout

  • Records web apps and desktop software with one library behind them
  • Shares a guide by public link, with no sign-in for the reader
  • Runs Guide Me on the live page through the browser extension
  • Lets you add tips, notes and alerts where the new tool behaves differently
  • Lets editors fix a guide when a screen changes
  • Exports to PDF, Word, HTML and Markdown

04Questions

Before you start

Can I record before the software is live?
Yes. Record in any test or staging environment you can open in a browser or on Windows. Use test accounts, so no real person’s data is in the screenshots.
How does Guide Me on the live site work?
The browser extension runs a guide as an overlay on the real page and points at the next thing to click. For readers who do not have the extension, the step-by-step player works in any browser.
What happens when the vendor changes the screens?
Edit the steps that moved, record more steps into the guide, or ask for a new write-up if you use AI. You review it, apply it, and can undo it.
