Release notes
What Chronika does today, written as release notes. Entries carry a version where one exists, and no date until there is a date worth trusting.

Chronika, on its own
The first release of Chronika as a product in its own right: a web app for guides, a Chrome and Edge extension, and a Windows recorder, all feeding one library.
Capture
- The Chrome and Edge extension records a browser tab: one step per click, typed field, selection or page change, each with a screenshot and the click ringed.
- The Windows recorder captures any window or a whole screen, names the control that was clicked, and counts down 3-2-1 before it starts. It is one self-contained .exe with no installer.
- Narrate while you record. The words are lined up with the steps they describe.
- Steps upload as they happen, so a long recording is not lost when the extension’s background worker is suspended.
- Password fields are blurred into the screenshot before upload, and what you type into them is never kept.
Write-up
- Optional AI write-up. When the operator turns on a provider, a finished recording gets a title, an introduction and step text, and the guide page offers a write-up you review, apply and can undo.
- With no AI configured, recordings still get sensible titles and step text.
Edit
- Retitle, describe, reorder, hide, duplicate and delete steps.
- Add tips, notes and alerts between steps.
- Crop, blur, zoom and annotate screenshots.
Share and use
- Public read-only links that you can turn off at any time. Screenshots behind a link are served only through that link.
- Export to PDF, Word, HTML and Markdown.
- Guide Me: a step-by-step player for any guide, and an overlay on the live site driven by the extension.
Workspaces
- A personal workspace for everyone and shared team workspaces, with four roles: owner, admin, editor and viewer.
- Collections to file guides, and Trash, so a deleted guide can come back.
- Sign in with email and password, or with Microsoft Entra ID, Google or any OIDC provider when the operator enables them.
- Recorders connect with a personal token that is shown once and stored only as a hash.
Look
- Safelight, a dark warm-charcoal bench with a honey accent, is the default.
- Lights on switches to warm paper and dark ink for daylight and printing. Screenshots keep their true colors in both.
Before the split
Where it came from
Chronika began as the guide recorder inside a larger team documentation product. It was extracted so it could stand alone.
Carried over
- The guide model, the recorder API, the Chrome extension and the Windows recorder come from that product, and keep working as they did.
- The extension’s version number continues from there, which is why it reads 2.0.0 while the web app reads 0.1.0.
New for Chronika
- A name, a mark and a look of its own, and a public site.
- Workspaces, collections and roles shaped for solo users and for teams.
